Which do you prefer:  basic, digital television programming or the brilliance and quality of Hi Def.?

 I'm betting you prefer the Hi Def experience. 

 And, I'm betting you would prefer a Hi Def experience with your financial advisor as compared to the unfulfilling experience that is so common. Like television, you do have a choice. 

 In fact, we believe confusing the two experiences is the #1 cause of investor dissatisfaction.

 What's the difference? 

 Most financial advisors focus on investments and markets.  Investors often say: "We have these assets, this time horizon, go make us as much money as possible. And don't lose a bunch!"  And advisors often respond by picking a handful of investments without further ado.  This is the equivalent of a basic, digital television experience.

 When investments and markets are the central focus, investors inevitably become frustrated and disappointed when, not if, their investments fail to meet their expectations.  Investors conclude they were ill-advised, took too much risk, invested at the wrong time, or were simply unlucky.  Talk about a low resolution experience.

 We can create a High Def experience for clients when we have a sharp, vivid, crisp picture of the their financial life.  This means making the effort to know where our clients are today and where they want to be before we begin to make recommendations. It also means having the skill and experience to know what questions or data might be relevant in a client's life.  The Hi Def experience with financial advisors is one that revolves around your Room of Dreams, your authentic spirit, vision and goals, NOT the markets, economy or any particular investment. We're finding that this results in greater success in meeting goals and greater satisfaction with the financial advisor relationship.

 For example, if we know a client has had great success in entrepreneurial pursuits, perhaps rather than trying to make money in the stock market, our advice may be to secure her portfolio, and pursue starting her dream business.  In some cases, clients could realistically be better off economically if they pursued their heart's passion. Our advice is focused on the client's life, not the markets.
